My work comes in two varieties. When I began composing, I held the belief that music is necessarily an abstract art form. During that period, I wrote music that attempted to epitomize that idea by stripping instrumental performance to its most barren essentials.
Beetween 2015 and 2016 I became more aware of how historical and contemporary context influence the way composers work. These influences create what we call musical style. From 2016 to the present, I have been exploring how composers can take command of these styles and use them to design coherent rhetorical discourse in sound.
My works listed below are separated to represent this change in my approach and to give a better idea of what lies behind each sometimes-enigmatic title. Additionally, pieces that form a series are grouped accordingly.
